AVALON is an independent production company and distributor founded in 1996 by Stefan Schmitz. In 2007, after years of collaboration, María Zamora and Enrique Costa became partners of the company and now direct the production and distribution departments respectively.
Today AVALON has a catalog of more than 200 feature films and documentaries. AVALON releases between 10 and 15 films each year and has its own DVD label. In 2005, AVALON began a collaboration with FNAC from which what is now the best collection of classic independent cinema on DVD in Spain was born. Fnac Film Library contains more than 100 feature films by directors such as Cassavetes, Jarmusch, Malle, Herzog, Fellini, Antonioni and Lang.
Apart from its own catalog, AVALON distributes thousands of hours of television content from catalogs such as TELEPOOL, RTL or PARTHENON. Series, miniseries, TV movies, animation or documentaries from these catalogs are shown on almost all television channels in Spain.
As a production company, AVALON has produced to date two Spanish feature films: “The Shame” by David Planell and “The Woman Without a Piano” by Javier Rebollo, 17 short films by renowned Spanish directors, as well as several co-productions with Latin American countries.
He currently has two projects in production: “Bunker” directed by Andi Baiz, in co-production with Colombia, and “Mapa,” a feature-length documentary by León Siminiani.
